Down East Cyclists is excited that Big Branch Bike Park has broken ground. Currently, the only mountain bike trail in the area is on Camp Lejeune at Henderson Pond; unless you are affiliated with the military or know someone that can give you visitor access, riders can't ride the trail. Down East Cyclists fully support this new trail, as it gives others in the area access to an activity that promotes a healthy lifestyle and improves fitness along with a multitude of other health benefits. With the addition of Big Branch Bike Park, we are welcoming riders from outside the area, to enjoy the year-round beautiful weather of Onslow County in a safe, controlled environment. We believe that the park will increase participation in the sport locally and give others from outside the area a reason to visit Onslow County. We are so committed to this project, that we have volunteered to maintain the trail to ensure it stays at a high standard of rideability. As an added benefit, Down East Cyclists intend to host mountain bike competitions and events to further attract participants that do not live in the area.
